Buying a diamond is a new and exciting experience, but it is not as difficult as it seems. Understanding a diamond's quality characteristics is straightforward and simple. It comes down to four simple criteria, the Four C's- Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat weight, the most important characteristics of buying a diamond. Understand the 4 Cs and you ll be able to find your perfect diamond at a price that fits your budget.
Of the 4 Cs, the Cut is the most important. The cut determines brilliance, which we generally think of as sparkle. Put simply, the better the cut, the more your diamond will sparkle. The shape of a diamond (round, princess, emerald etc) describes a diamond's form, primarily as viewed from above. All diamond shapes have different attributes, but overall the beauty of the individual shapes is a matter of personal taste.
Clarity refers to the lack of imperfections within a diamond. Almost all diamonds have tiny imperfections. Diamonds with few or no imperfections receive the highest clarity grades.
Carat or Carat weight is the term with which people are most familiar. Carat is specifically a measure of a diamond's weight. Color actually refers to the lack of color. In other words, diamonds that are white, containing little or no color, receive higher quality grades than those with visible color. At Jewelsnext we give you detailed information about all these characteristics for each and every piece of diamond in our jewellery.
